An intimate four-night concert in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court. Dutch singer-songwriter Wende and Royal Court Artistic Associate Chloe Lamford invited five Royal Court writers — EV Crowe, Sabrina Mahfouz, Somalia Seaton, Stef Smith, Debris Stevenson — to spend a day talking together. Rage, dancing, sex, DNA, theatre, love, mothers, hatred, ritual: what emerged was shaped into lyrics, then into songs by Wende and Isobel Waller-Bridge.

The result is something that sits between concert and theatre, and the lighting design holds that ambiguity. Chloe Lamford’s design establishes the space; the lighting has to serve both the intimacy of the songs and the scale of what they contain.
